Australia's export credit agency appoints Andrew Watson as new SME Executive Director

Australia’s export credit agency, Export Finance & Insurance Corporation (EFIC) is pleased to announce that it has appointed Andrew Watson as the new Executive Director of its SME division.

Andrew will be responsible for leading and providing strategic direction to the SME team which provides financial solutions to help small and medium-sized Australian businesses to help them take advantage of export and export-related business opportunities.

Andrew joins EFIC from Bankwest where he was Head of Rural & Regional, Business Banking and Head of Property Finance. Previously, he was with Commonwealth Bank of Australia where he was General Manager, Asset Finance and General Manager, Corporate Financial Services.

“We are very pleased to welcome Andrew to EFIC. He brings a wealth of executive expertise with over 20 years in banking,” said EFIC Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Angus Armour.

“With the challenges facing Australian exporters in the global economy, we are fortunate to have someone with his passion and experience in our team.”

Mr Watson added he was delighted to be joining EFIC, noting the agency’s professionalism and solid credentials in helping SME companies with financing solutions.

“I look forward to building on this success and continuing EFIC’s great achievements in helping small and medium-sized exporters and subcontractors in export supply chains grow their business,” he said.

“By strengthening our relationships with our banking and alliance partners we can continue to achieve great results for our SME clients.”

Australia in the Asian Century Implementation Plan

The Australian Government has established implementation arrangements for the policy pathways in the Australia in the Asian Century. As part of this implementation plan, country strategies are being developed for Japan, China, Indonesia, India and South Korea.   

Issues papers have been developed for all five countries and are available on the DFAT Australia in the Asian Century website, http://www.dfat.gov.au/issues/asian-century/.  

Online submissions relating to one or more of the country strategies can be made noting that submissions will need to be received by 31 May 2013.
