Update from the CEO
It’s been a great couple of months at the ECA since I started in March. I have been focused on listening to our valued partners and members, and I have already met many of you.
It’s been a great couple of months at the ECA since I started in March. I have been focused on listening to our valued partners and members, and I have
already met many of you. Leading industry associations the Export Council of Australia (ECA) and the Australian Digital Commerce Association (ADCA), alongside KPMG, have today
released a paper calling for the Australian Government and industry to come together to plan for a digitally-enabled trading future. In partnership with HSBC Australia, the ECA recently launched the ASEAN Connected report to highlight opportunities in the southeast Asian region for Australian
businesses. The ECA and HSBC are now pleased to promote the ASEAN Connected Toolkit – a series of practical resources for accessing opportunities under
the various free trade agreements between Australia and ASEAN countries: The ECA’s International Business Coaching service is a one-on-one matching service that aligns the specific needs of an individual company with the services
of a subject expert. The ECA has an arsenal of experts in the field of international business, these experts include ECA staff members, ECA Directors,
industry professionals and academics. It’s a new financial year and it’s time for Australian exporters to seize the day and take advantage of a whole range of opportunities that are sitting
right on our doorstep. What a start to the year we have had. Working in international trade makes it impossible to shut off from the daily updates
and developments in the Northern hemisphere. At the ECA, it is our job to monitor trade policy messaging and announcements in markets like the United
States and the United Kingdom on behalf of our members, and the team here has certainly been kept on their toes. “Any ‘Buy Queensland’ policies must be consistent with Australia’s international trade commitments,” said Lisa McAuley, CEO of the Export Council of Australia
(ECA). “Otherwise they will undermine Australia’s international credibility and risk retaliation.” ‘Facilitating the smooth flow of goods and people is critically important for Australia’s international competitiveness’ said Lisa McAuley, CEO of the
Export Council of Australia (ECA). ‘We need to ensure they are seen from an economic perspective, not just through a security prism.’ The Agreements mean Australian exporters will benefit from new trade facilitation measures, such as reduced examination requirements and prioritised clearance,
in Hong Kong, South Korea and Canada.“These Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) are important commitments by Australia and Hong Kong, South Korea
and Canada to co-operate on important economic and trade issues,” says Export Council of Australia (ECA) CEO Lisa McAuley.

The Export Council of Australia (ECA) believes that with the right encouragement and tools, more Australian businesses, particularly Micro Small Medium
Enterprises (MSMEs), can take on and succeed in the world of international trade. Trade and investment are key drivers of innovation and long-term prosperity for Australia. At the Export Council of Australia (ECA), we believe that Australian
jobs are best created and protected over the long term through an open and competitive economic system.
