Australian Border Force industry assurance process during COVID-19

07.04.2020 Australian Border Force

The Australian Border Force (ABF) is committed to ensuring our staff and yours work in as safe an environment as possible. This enables the ABF to continue working with industry to maintain our role in protecting the community, through critical functions such as the examination of cargo, both incoming and outgoing.

The ABF has considered the current COVID-19 situation, and, while we will continue to undertake essential activities, including attending industry premises, note the additional current arrangements. Where ABF officers have a requirement to visit industry premises they will have the attached assurance document. This document will be provided, where requested, on arrival. Officers will undertake non-invasive (temperature) screening for COVID19 at the premises and not enter the premises if failing a temperature test.

The ABF will not allow officers to attend any premises if:

  • They have travelled overseas in 14 days prior to attending site
  • They feel unwell, have a fever, cough or other flu like symptoms
  • The officer knows that they have had any close contact* with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days
  • They are awaiting for a COVID-19 test result
  • They have otherwise been directed or advised that they should self-isolate
* Close contact relates to co-habitation with an identified case; more than 15 minutes face-to-face with an identified case without PPE; or more than two hours in a closed room with an identified case without PPE, in the 24 hours before they develop symptoms.

The ABF also gives the following assurances:

  • The ABF has provided information to its officers about how to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19;
  • Officers will undertake a non-invasive temperature check if requested;
  • Officers will not enter the relevant premise if they fail the temperature check;
  • The ABF will provide relevant details if contact tracing is required.
