Now in its fifth year, Australia’s International Business Survey (AIBS) is the largest undertaking of its kind into Australia’s international business
behaviour, focusing on small and medium-sized enterprises.
AIBS 2018 results paint an encouraging picture of Australia’s international business. Most exporters anticipated stronger business conditions over the
next two years and plan to hire more staff in Australia as a result, by an average of 41% over the next two years.
Top international revenue markets for respondents were the United States, China, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Singapore. The US was also the most
popular new market for respondents, followed by China and the UK.
Additional insights this year include a special focus on two emerging opportunities and trends in Australia’s trade space: the business experience of the
Latin American market, and the use of new technologies and online platforms to drive export sales.
AIBS is a collaborative effort between the Export Council of Australia (ECA), the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and the Export
Finance and Insurance Corporation (Efic). In 2018, AIBS surveyed 713 businesses, 629 of which were actively undertaking international business activities.
