Business Opportunities in Malaysia

As part of the final unit for their Masters’ degree in International Business, students of the University of Sydney offer free consulting reports for Australian companies interested in learning more about their business opportunities in Malaysia.

“Malaysia is competing fiercely with other countries in the region to provide a pro-business environment. The government has relaxed foreign ownership laws in the manufacturing sector and has invested heavily in infrastructure to facilitate both efficient business and a high standard of living, particularly in the major centres. It has also recently implemented liberalisation actions within the financial services sector to attract more international players to operate within the market. The bilateral trade relationship between Australia and Malaysia reached a significant milestone with the signing of the Malaysia-Australia Free Trade Agreement (MAFTA). MAFTA eliminates tariffs on 97.6 per cent of goods imported from Australia.” (Source: Austrade Market Profile Malaysia).

Teams of 4 or 5 students will work independently on a consulting report for their client company. The consulting reports our students prepare have proven to be greatly beneficial for the participating companies and are free of cost. Simultaneously, you help the students by making it possible for them to have this practical, hands-on and real-life experience, which is an invaluable learning opportunity for them.

Projects kick off early December 2017. In January 2018 the students will travel to Malaysia to gather first-hand information tailored to their client’s needs. Reports will be available mid-February 2018. Throughout their project students are assisted by academic staff with extensive consulting experience.

If your company is interested in finding out more about this opportunity, please contact our project coordinator, Jacqueline Mees-Buss (see details below). The only 2 things we ask from participating companies are (1) that you appoint a person in your organization who will be the project champion at your end (2) that you help your student team to get started by giving them a briefing about your company at the start of the project (early December 2017). With all modern communication technology, your company does not have to be located in Sydney to participate in this program.

Please express your interest latest by Friday the 3rd of November 2017.
