Proposed WTO Agreement on Trade in Environmental Goods—2014 Submission to DFAT
Submission OverviewThe ECA makes this submission directly on behalf of its members, and indirectly on behalf of the international trade community, in support of Australia’s involvement in the Environmental Goods Negotiations and the ambition to promote free trade in environmental products. The ECA notes from the information provided by DFAT that in 2013, Australia’s exports of environmental goods were valued at approximately A$1.3 billion and imports at approximately A$7.2 billion. The ECA also notes that the global market for environmental goods was estimated at US$1 trillion in 2012, with this figure expected to increase to approximately US$3 trillion in 2020. As a result, the ECA recognises that the potential gains to Australian businesses from trade in environmental goods are significant.
