The China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone & Australia
What the Shanghai Free Trade Zone is, what it means and how it can benefit Australian firms in China
The China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone (SFTZ) is one of the most ambitious reform initiatives China has undertaken in a long time. It opens new opportunity for Australian goods and service exporters, as well as expands existing engagement options.
It is also little understood. The Export Council of Australia (ECA) encourages Australian businesses to actively research opportunity in the SFTZ, and The China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone and Australia report provides a unique tool to facilitate understanding of the SFTZ and what it offers Australian businesses.
This report provides insight into the SFTZ as a gateway to the Mainland market, outlines the unique policies and procedures on offer on a sector-by-sector basis and contextualises the creation of the Zone within China’s broader reform efforts. It also discusses the SFTZ’s implications for Hong Kong, the traditional gateway to the Mainland market.
This report was made possible by our partners Asialink Business, the Australia-China Council and Austrade.

"Pharmako Biotechnologies were already exporting when we joined the ECA. We joined to assist our export strategies, and unashamedly to promote ourselves
through the Australian Export Awards. As a small business, third party recognition and industry membership assist when dealing with large
multinational businesses."
